The Syrian Democratic Council

They target our national project – SDC’s General Council

The General Council of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) held on Thursday, February 29, its second regular meeting in Hasakah city. The meeting aimed to discuss current issues, political solutions and the SDC’s path toward resolving the Syrian crisis.

Layla Qaraman, Co-chairwoman of the SDC, and Mahmoud al-Mislat, Co-chairman of the SDC, chaired the meeting in the presence of Janda Muhammad, Ali Rahmoun and Amjad Othman, deputies of the SDC’s Co-chairs. Most of the General Council’s members inside Syria and abroad participated in the meeting via the Zoom platform.

They observed a minute of silence to remember the martyrs of freedom in Syria. The meeting commenced with an address by the Co-chairs. “On behalf of the SDC, we strongly condemn the Turkish targeting of areas in northeastern Syria, as well as the Internal Security Forces, known as Sutoro Forces, in Derik (al-Malikiyah), resulting in the martyrdom of three fighters,” Qaraman stated.

“We extend our condolences to the families of the martyrs and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded. These attacks push us to continue working on our genuine project that represents the aspirations of the Syrian people,” Qaraman continued her speech.

She emphasized that the Turkish government aims to exploit these strikes in the upcoming local elections for its interests and manipulate public opinion in Turkey.

She further noted that there is an international conflict between figures in the unipolar world and those striving for a multipolar world. Therefore, this conflict will be escalated in light of these circumstances, and the SDC can play a significant and effective role in reaching a solution to the Syrian crisis.

Al-Mislat also condemned the targeting of the SDC’s Center in Qamishli city, asserting that the region is targeted because it includes a genuine national project that represents hope for Syrians. Also, this project will lead to a comprehensive national reconciliation, restoring unity to the country, and building a true citizenship state.

“These attacks only strengthen our determination to continue the struggle and engage with all Syrian components, moving forward in implementing the plans and strategies set by the SDC on the roadmap and its political vision,” al-Mislat stated.

The meeting continued its proceedings with reviewing a political briefing by the presidential body. The briefing covered political developments on various issues at local, regional, and international levels.

During the meeting, field developments in different Syrian regions were discussed. The General Council’s members expressed a condemnation for the targeting of protesters in Suwayda, which resulted in the martyrdom of a protester. They also supported the demands put forth by the people in Suwayda.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the conditions of Syrians in areas under the authority of Damascus. Also, the meeting members discussed the deteriorating economic and living conditions that were attributed to the persistence of corruption and central authoritarianism. They emphasized that the authority in Damascus remains steadfast in its rejection of national solutions that could save the country from its dire situation.

At the local level, the meeting emphasized the implementation of outcomes of the SDC’s Fourth Conference and the SDC’s strategy. It affirmed the continuation of the intra-Syrian dialogue and strengthening relations with Syrian democratic powers to pave the way for reaching national consensuses aimed at resolving the Syrian crisis.

On the organizational level, the meeting reviewed reports and activities of the SDC’s offices and representatives abroad. The members discussed phased plans of those offices which contributed to the overall national strategy of the SDC.

As part of the phased action plan, efforts will focus on enhancing the representation and engaging in international meetings for the SDC as well as opening to Arab countries. A series of visits to Arab and European countries is scheduled to be conducted regarding the Syrian issue that is supposed to take priority after it has unfortunately become a secondary issue among the international and regional issues in the world.
