At the invitation of the Yazidi Women’s Union, a delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and representatives from all segments of Syrian society participated in a celebration of the Yazidi New Year. The event took place in the town of Tirbe Spiyeh (al-Qahtaniya) in the countryside of Qamishli, northeastern Syria.
On this occasion, Hadiya Shamoun, Head of the Yazidi Women’s Union, emphasized that all Syrian components participated in many celebrations in April. This unity and peaceful coexistence among various components reflect the cohesion of the Syrian society.
It is worth noting that the Red Wednesday marks the Yazidi New Year. It falls on the first Wednesday of April, according to the Eastern calendar (Julian calendar), differing by 13 days later than the Gregorian calendar. This festive occasion symbolizes prosperity and renewal.
