SDC and political parties hold an extensive meeting to discuss current challenges

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) held an extensive meeting on Tuesday at its office in the city of Qamishli. Layla Qaraman, Co-chairwoman of the SDC, the deputies of the SDC’s Co-chairs and representatives of political parties affiliated to the SDC attended the meeting.

The participants in the meeting observed a moment of silence to remember the martyrs of freedom in Syria. After that, Qaraman presented a briefing on the latest visits and meetings conducted by Mahmoud al-Mislat, Co-chairman of the SDC, and Co-chairs of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Europe. Qaraman also reviewed the SDC’s activities within Syria and abroad.

The participants discussed the general political situation and its impact on the Syrian issue. They also discussed the political, security, and economic challenges facing Syria, and emphasized the importance of intra-Syrian dialogue. Additionally, they stressed the necessity of engaging with various segments of Syrian society to reach agreements to resolve the Syrian crisis. They highlighted the importance of the role of Arab countries in finding a solution according to international resolutions that could preserve the unity of the country.

Also, the participants underscored the significance of the SDC’s role as a driving force for the democratic movement. They unanimously affirmed that the SDC aims to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people for the desired democratic change in Syria.

Additionally, the meeting highlighted the role of the international community to assume its responsibilities towards the region and the fight against terrorism. The participants noted that Turkish attacks have affected the region in ways that provide opportunities for the Islamic State (ISIS) to re-emerge, destabilizing security and stability in North and East Syria.

In a related context, the meeting reaffirmed the role and importance of the work of political parties affiliated to the SDC as its fundamental pillars.

The political party leaders and their representatives emphasized the necessity of unifying efforts to ensure a safe and stable life for Syrians.

They highlighted the importance of continuing to promote the SDC’s project, developing the AANES project, preserving the achievements made, and the need for the people to unite. The aim is to end the crisis and to stand against external threats, particularly the Turkish occupation, while also maintaining the unity of the country.

Furthermore, the participants discussed the decision to postpone the elections in the regions of North and East Syria, which were initially scheduled on June 11. They affirmed the correctness of this decision, considering that the postponement provides an opportunity for further preparation and coordination for important matters, ensuring more comprehensive elections for all components of society.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants presented a number of proposals aimed at enhancing the SDC’s work and improving the performance of the AANES.

This meeting is part of the ongoing efforts of the SDC to strengthen coordination among various political powers in the region. Also, the SDC aims to address the current challenges at both the local and regional levels.
