The Syrian Democratic Council

Statement for the Public Opinion

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) closely monitors the escalating protests and popular movements in northwestern Syria. This comes in light of the violations and racist crimes committed against Syrian refugees in Turkey. The SDC strongly condemns the Turkey’s systematic behavior towards Syrians. Additionally, the SDC keeps a close watch on the dire conditions that Syrians experience in refugee camps in neighboring countries.

Furthermore, the SDC condemns the crimes committed by Turkish-affiliated factions in NW Syria. These factions suppress the demands of protesters and force them to kiss the Turkish flag as a deliberate act to insult the Syrians.

Also, the SDC emphasizes that developments related to normalization attempts between Turkey and the authority in Damascus have significantly increased pressure on Syrian refugees in Turkey. The SDC warns that this normalization will be at the expense of the Syrian people, leading to tragedies that emerge in Kayseri, Turkey, and in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib. We, as members of the SDC, underscore that the international community, which remains silent regarding this normalization, implicitly endorses this reconciliation. Therefore, it bears significant ethical and political responsibility on negative impacts of this reconciliation.

We believe that the Turkish ambitions and the tyranny of the authority in Damascus have contributed to exacerbating the Syrian crisis since its inception. Both parties were causes behind shedding much blood in Syria. This reconciliation cannot be achieved without further victimization of those who reject deals that insult their dignity. We believe that both sides have obstructed political solution efforts. Turkey stands as a negative example of manipulation throughout history. It persistently disregards international community decisions and pursues its own agenda without respecting international legitimacy which outlines the political solution in Syria.

The SDC values the stance of the free Syrian people who defend their dignity alone, especially after the international community abandoned its commitments to a political solution. That came after encouraging reconciliation and normalization between Turkey and the authority in Damascus. The SDC believes that Syrians have been obligated to reconsider their positions regarding the divisions and differences among them in Syria. Turkey and the authority in Damascus played a negative role in these differences. The SDC calls upon Syrian national powers to expedite preparations for holding a conference for engaging all parties in the national dialogue in Syria. The goal is to assess the current stage, prioritize issues, confront challenges and risks, and unify efforts. Also, the aim is to achieve a democratic transition, end occupations, and prevent the legitimization of corruption and tyranny.
