On August7,The Presidential Council of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) held its regular meeting in the Syrian town of Ein Issa. The Turkish threats, interim options and a number of challenges facing the democratic experiment in Northern and Eastern Syria were on its agenda.
In the presence of the Co-Chair, Amina Omar, and the majority of the members of the Presidential Council, the meeting began its work by reading a detailed political report about the overall political situation related to the Syrian crisis and its developments.
The meeting dealt extensively with the recent Turkish threats and its blackmailing of international powers in its efforts to impose a new reality in which it wants to occupy the whole of Northern Syria and parts of Iraq in order to achieve the so-called “Milli Charter” propagandized by Erdogan regime.
The members of the Presidential Council considered that the recent Turkish threats are aimed at aborting the democratic experience in Northern and Eastern Syria, which has recently received international welcome and is closer to obtaining international legitimacy than ever before.
The Presidential Council of SDC warned the international community of the aftermath of Turkish implementation of its threats or the establishment of a safe area under the supervision of its forces, which, if such threats happen, will strengthen the chances of revitalizing terrorist organizations, especially ISIS, as well as the humanitarian reality will expose to atrocities as they happened in Afrin Region. At the same time, the attendees called upon all national and democratic powers to confront and defend of the gains achieved by virtue of the sacrifices of the Syrian Democratic Forces, considering that a national duty for all Syrians and democratic powers.
The Presidential Council also called on the authority in Damascus to assume its responsibilities in defending Syrian sovereignty toward Turkish threats and its attempts to annex more Syrian territory.
On the other hand, the Presidential Council stressed on the primacy of the language of dialogue and negotiation with everyone, including the Syrian authority to resolve all problems and thus to spare our people the scourge of wars and crises.
As for the means and options available, the members of the Presidential Council unanimously stated that the main dependence is on our people, our forces and the powers that seek peace and democracy in the region, calling on at the same, all regional and international countries to pressure on Erdogan regime to stop its threats and attempts to destabilize areas of Northern and Eastern Syria.
The Presidential Council also decided to move diplomatically in both Arab and Western countries to inform them about the danger of Turkish presence on Syrian territory.
As for the organizational aspect, the members of the Presidential Council evaluated various activities of the Syrian Democratic Council during the month of July, particularly the Vienna Dialogue Workshop, which was welcomed by the democratic opposition.
The meeting concluded with reading of the monthly report of Executive Council and General Council of Self-Administration of North and East Syria, read by the Co-Chair of Executive Council, Abd Hamid al-Mahbash, and the Co- Chair of General Council, Fareed Ate.
