On August 7, the Assyrian component celebrated the Assyrian Martyr’s Day in the town of Tal Tamr /al-Hasakah/ in the presence of representatives of civil and military institutions and civil society activities.
The celebration was held in the Church of Saint in the city of Tall Tamr with the participation of hundreds the Assyrian component.
The organizers of the celebration said that the Assyrian component has been subjected throughout its history to many massacres, especially in North and East of Syria, where the Assyrian component suffered from the scourge of being targeted by the terrorist organizations such as ISIS and its counterparts.
For his part, the official of Assyrian Democratic Party -Syria Branch- and the member of the Presidential Council of the Syria Democratic Council , Wael Mirza, pointed out that the Assyrian component was subjected to genocide campaigns during its history, starting from Sefo massacre in 1915 committed by the Ottoman Empire, to Khabur massacre in which ISIS kidnapped Hundreds of Assyrians and killed dozens of them.
Mirza continued saying that they, in North and East of Syria, are following the principle of brotherhood of peoples through adoption of a third-line policy and that their main dependence is on the will of the components of the region to deter any attack on the Assyrian component.
Mirza praised the role of the Assyrian Natura Forces operating under the leadership of SDF in the fight against terrorism and that the blood of all components of North and East of Syria mixed and irrigated this land to provide security and stability for the people.
Mirza added that North and East of Syria is exposing toTurkish threats and we do not rule out that the Assyrian component and other components of the region to expose to genocide campaigns, as the Ottoman authorities did previously.
Mirza, at the end of his speech, called on the components of the region to organize themselves and take responsibility towards Turkish threats. He also called on the international community to prevent further massacres against the peoples of the region.
It is worth mentioning that the Assyrian component celebrates the Assyrian Martyr’s Day every year in memory of “Simeel Massacre” that took place in 1933 in the province of Dohuk, Iraq.
